  • In the biggest daylight raids so far, U.S. jets pound targets around Kabul and attack a military headquarters and suspected terrorist training camp near the eastern city of Jalalabad.

  • Merchants by the thousands keep shops shuttered across Pakistan after Muslim leaders called for a national strike against government support of U.S.-led military strikes on Afghanistan.

  • The White House rebuffs offer by Afghanistan's Taliban rulers to discuss handing over Osama bin Laden to a third country.

  • Number of people exposed to anthrax grows to 12 with the addition of a police officer and two lab technicians in New York. Nevada officials say four people who may have come into contact with a contaminated letter at a Microsoft office tested negative for anthrax.

  • Attorney General John Ashcroft says investigators are looking to question about 190 people who may have knowledge of terrorism.

  • Secretary of State Colin Powell leaves for Pakistan and India hoping to keep tensions between those nations from complicating the military campaign in neighboring Afghanistan.

  • Authorities say the number of people reported missing at the World Trade Center stood Sunday to 4,688 with 450 people confirmed dead and 395 of those identified. Death tolls unchanged at Pentagon (189) and at Pennsylvania crash site (44).
